@SpiderMonkey and I finally got round to visiting a bit more of SSI's works in Redcar, this time to visit the Lackenby works. Not a lot you haven't seen before with the exception of a few control rooms..... and a little bit of skirt lifting! :
The Lackenby works is a Basic Oxygen Steel-making (BOS) and Continuous Casting (ConCast) plant. It takes iron produced in the Redcar Blast Furnacse to produce steel. Scrap steel is also recycled as part of the process.
Unfortunately the bulk of the ConCast area was suffering from chronic darkness. We had already spotted a worker near that area and security were sat in their van parked below so trying to find the light switches wouldn't have been wise.
