With a distinct Lack of high structures around Planet Thanet (Most not exceeding 2-3 stories), it is a rare opportunity when we manage to top anything of a reasonable height.

In 2013 there was money pumped into Thanet’s churches and we saw the erection of scaffolding to two of the main parish bell towers while they underwent structural repair.

St John’s church in Margate sits proud at the top of a hill looking down upon the town. I am unsure of the exact height of the tower and couldn’t find much online. It seems this doesn’t seem to be a hot topic on any religious history sites.

For anyone interested in the history of the church:-

I saw the scaffolding had gone up over a few nights and so made a call to urban ginger and we agreed it needed to be climbed. As we arrived then large flood lights lit the scaffolding all the way to the top and so we knew we would need to move quick as we were in plain view of everyone around. Upon reaching the top we realised the scaffolding was still not completed as ladders had been left unsecured and loads of scaffolding was laying up top waiting to be erected. We got a couple of photos and called it a night.

I returned a few days later with Hermy and Trav after seeing the scaff had now been completed and reached the top of the tower. It was quite a foggy night but this produced some amazing shadows of the tower in the sky. We quickly got up the scaffold and then chilled with a drink and took some photos...
