It's not an original idea, and has been done 4 times to my knowledge. Most likely a few more times than that.
But anyway, I'd never been to Steetly before. When I passed it on the train on my way into Hartlepool I wasn't sure I wanted to. It looked a bit pants to be honest. I met up with UrbanFox in central Hartlepool (half an hour late
) and we caught the bus along to Steetly.
As soon as we got there I saw the rubble that was the Magnesite works covered in Pikies searching for what little copper may remain. We also saw them loading fences into their Transit van. :crazy
So anyway, after a little bit of difficulty, and with the help of a 12 year old, we ascended our rope and got into the chimney. We pulled the rope up inside, got out our cameras and climbed to the top.

These seem paler and greener than I've seen them in photos.
On the way down we had a bried encounter with loads of stoned charvas of varying ages with their buckets and airguns. We also got quizzed on how much our climbing kit and cameras were worth. :crazy

I only had a brief look around the site from ground level and found it quite dull. I think I've seen enough of it in reports to not really need to see every one of those pools.
