Stockton On Tees, District Heating Boiler House, May 2015
Introduction:
Spotted this one on the way home from a friends house a few week back, the place looked promising at a quick glance from the car window, so it went on the ever ending list of sites to check out. Fortunately Borolad messaged me to let me know he was free to check out a few leads up north, so this one ended up jumping the queue a little! It took a lot of head scratching to get in here and we where about to move on to our next location when access, albeit extremely tight appeared, before we knew it we where in!
History:
Sadly there's very little history available on the building, but it's obviously an ex council premises created to provide local housing with warm water for heating and washing. The boiler house consists of two coal fired boilers a single gas fired boiler and a pair of Perkins back up Diesel Generators. Borolad as a local believes the place was abandoned in 2010, although we can't confirm that.
Anyway, let's take a look inside, it's rather nice in there! (If you like boilers, I love them...)
Pictures:
Exterior, from Tesco Car Park...
Inside, a rather impressive Boiler Room, the Boiler closest the camera is the Gas Powered Boiler, the other two where Coal Fired.
Back of the Boilers
Boiler Controls...
Paperwork...
The Perkins Back up Diesel Gen Set...
Ladders to the rather flimsy roof space, also past the gas storage tank (Red).
Up on the gantry looking out over the boilers...
And let's finish off with some pics of pure Boilery goodness...
Safety Valves...
And that's all from here, it's a small place but pretty photogenic! Other than access been a massive pain in the arse (But a good laugh) it's an awesome little place to spend an hour or so!
As always cheers for reading!
