Had a drive over to Huddersfield to have a gander at Storthes Hall Lunatic Asylum. It was opened in 1904 and closed in 2002. The Huddersfield Uni has used some of the site for residence.
We had a scout round in the car first and picked the best way in. as soon as we were in the grounds a guy walked in after us with two huge alsation dogs. Thought that was it, but it turned out he was just taking them for a run.
Got in and couldn`t believe the damage done and graffiti everywhere, its in a real bad state.
We saw what must have been a telephone exchange room, a buzzer type room for the different wards, lots of empty rooms, would have loved to have a look up the tower but we had no ladders and the floor boards were well dodgy below the hatch.
A small place, but it was worth it. Just a shame we didnt get there a few years earlier before all the other buildings were flattened.
