The existence of a slate industry in Wales is attested since the Roman period, when slate was used to roof the fort at Segontium, now Caernarfon. ... Penrhyn and Dinorwig were the two largest slate quarries in the world, and the Oakeley mine at Blaenau Ffestiniog was the largest slate mine in the world.
A very wet and soggy day we decided to check out some of the smaller lesser explored mines, with alot of walking and swearing we managed to tick a couple off, this was the 3rd of the day and my favourite.
Couldn't find much out about this one, it sits in the very picturesque Nantell valley.
A flooded entrance and nothing but bin bags to wade in with... (pros) we headed in.
After about 20 meters of flooded passage it dries up, leading onto a very sketchy false floor, beyond that the wooden ladder to the lower levels, which is a absolute no without ropes.
We headed on and explored the varying walkways, some nice features in this one, stalactites are starting to form and
due to flodding makes it worth a few pictures.
Stuck this in here as I dont particular like posting mines in public these days.
