1. The History
Founded in 1931 to educate children in the villages and originally located in Ping Shan, Tat Tak School is a former public primary school which has been located in Yuen Long district of the New Territories since 1965. It consists of a two-storey main building in a U-shape, with the hall at the centre and classrooms in the other two wings. In 1975 the school had around 700 students and more than 20 teaching staff, making it the largest primary school in the district. After this peak, declining enrolment led to Tat Tak School closed in 1998. The site has been abandoned ever since then.
It has become the most well-known haunted school in the city. One story surrounds the rumoured death of the headmistress who wore a red dress and committed suicide by hanging in one of the bathroom stalls after being raped, despite no police records of the incident occuring. The site is also used by film-makers for shooting television dramas and movies. The school also featured in National Geographic’s 2013 TV series, “I Wouldn't Go in There”.
2. The Explore
Second of my HK reports from this Summer just gone, and probably the least impressive of the places I visited. Explored with the good @drhowser on a very, very hot August day. We’d originally gone to a different place but that explore, rather comically, unavailed itself, so this was Plan B. It was an easy in, but much to our surprise, like the signs said, there was a (newly installed) CCTV gantry. Not that it affected our explore much.
The site itself is empty and trashed, but is still quite photogenic. So, after we’d taken our pics we were away after half-an-hour and back to the comfort of air-conditioning. Given it’s pretty trashed and empty, it’s quite surprising that the place gets so much attention. Probably down to all the ghost stories associated with the place. Needless to say, we spotted zero ghosts.
3. The Pictures
