This is a pretty old report but I know they started work on renovating them into apartments earlier this year (and apparently stopped last month).
The only mildly interesting bit of history I can find is that the original building was a large house for a wine merchant, George Adams, built in the late 18th Century and in 1930 it was converted into the Angel Croft Hotel.
