Hello all, thought it was about time i attempted a report.
Was out and about with @DdotMC and 2 non members (Gibo and Copper) and after a fail at one site and an attack of paranoia at another, ended up taking in the view on a towerblock roof. It was on the way home that we passed this derp and decided to take a chance on it. It was one of them where an off chance explore turned out to be the best of the night.
HISTORY.............
All the history i can find on this place is from the company website.
Binding Site is a Specialist Protein company committed to the research, development, manufacture and distribution of innovative, immunodiagnostic assays for the global laboratory market. By utilizing its specialized expertise in antibody specificity technology, Binding Site gives clinicians and laboratory staff the tools to significantly improve diagnosis and management of those patients with specific cancers and immune disorders.
Binding Site is committed to disease state management and clinical practice guidelines. Binding Site's team of medical professionals have the exceptional expertise and practical experience to assist with technical and clinical education and training, from validation to implementation and beyond, giving clinicians and laboratory staff the tools to significantly improve diagnosis and management of patients.
At Binding Site we constantly strive to improve the tools available to laboratory professionals around the world for diagnosing and monitoring disease. Our origins date back to a group of researchers within the Medical School of Birmingham University who first started looking at innovative ways of producing antibodies in the early 1970's. With a desire to continue this early work but lacking the required government funding they founded a private company to take the research forward and utilize all commercial benefits. That company has evolved into The Binding Site and for over 25 years we have specialized in producing highly sensitive and highly specific antibodies used for the detection of certain cancers and serious disorders.
In March 2011 The Binding Site Group, a manufacturer of immunodiagnostic products (with a global turnover of around £43 million), is moving its headquarters to larger, more eco- friendly premises in the center of Birmingham, UK. Having achieved double digit growth for many years, well above the industry average, this Specialist Protein Company, is re-housing its 380 UK-based staff into a new 6 story building that will fulfill their needs for growth over the foreseeable future. The new site is a reflection of the company’s success and shows its commitment to Birmingham (having its roots at the University in the 1960s), to its staff and customers, and to its future growth.
The new building just off Five Ways in Birmingham has an impressive range of sustainable features and a BREEAM* rating of ‘Excellent’. It was built with a focus on key issues such as energy and water consumption and has provisions for rainwater harvesting. The building meets strict carbon emission restrictions and has solar control glass to minimize heat gains, while ensuring natural levels of daylight. The provision of bicycle racks and excellent local public transport links enables employees to limit their impact on the environment when travelling to and from work.
EXPLORE..........................
As i mentioned, this was an off chance explore which paid off well. Access was looking impossible untill we ended up at the side of the building, and with the help of an upturned dustbin, we were in. The place is huge and a little confusing in places as you appear to be going round in circles . There is a lot of evidence of tatters stripping the cable and the building is quite trashed due to this (and a stupid ammount of pigeon cack in various places). There is however a lot of original features dotted around the place, some of which is really unusual stuff. We assume we covered the most part of the lower floor/floors but didnt manage the offices at the front due to it being too dark and every one of us had left out torches in the car.
Anyways, on with some pictures, i appologise in advance for any quality issues as these are iphone pics as my camera was dire. First report so suggestions and bollockins are welcome, please be nice tho lol :-)
