After seeing the report done earlier in the month by @mockney reject we decided to sit on this one as a potential visit being fairly local to us.

The Bishop's Stortford High School (often abbreviated to TBSHS) is a comprehensive secondary school, with a coeducational sixth form, in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England. The school admits boys aged 11 to 16 in the first five years, with a mixed sixth form of boys and girls aged 16 to 18. The school had specialisms in Mathematics and Computing, focusing on these areas as well as music, drama and sport, possessing state-of-the-art in-house computing facilities and providing assistance to local schools in this area. The current Headmaster, Mr D. Reeve, was appointed in January 2014.
In September 2024, the school moved to an all new purpose-built site on the nearby new development, St. James' Park. After a delayed start to term the school officially welcomed the first students on Friday 6 September 2024.
From the 1980s onwards the school extensively added to its original buildings; a dedicated Sixth Form Centre was built and the Turing Suite (an extensive computing and ICT facility, named after Alan Turing) was constructed. A drama studio named 'Broadway' and an on-site sports pavilion were also added to the school, in addition to the set of playing fields at Jobber's Wood. The school site also has 'Newton', a combined Design technology, Science and Languages block named after Sir Isaac Newton, which opened in 1995.
After 2 decades, finally in October 2021 the new school development officially started on the new site at St. James' Park. The original plan in place was for the school to be completed by November 2022 and opening in January 2023. With continuous delays, the school 'topped out' in October 2023 and finally opened in September 2024 welcoming its first students on Friday 6 September 2024. Development on the new school is still underway with the new sports hall facility set to be completed in 2025.
The Explore
A week or so passed from seeing the report and with Half term approaching and the impending possibility of bored kids getting to the place we decided to venture up for a look round on a Sunday Morning, figuring that if it was a fail we could at least try the Pie and Mash shop in Bishop Stortford.
After looking on the map, it did seem that it would be a quick dash to get in, so we timed it and made our way in without incident, starting over to the left of the site by the sports hall, we went from building to building checking out the assembly hall and canteen.
This is where things were about to take a turn for us literally as we turned into the long corridoor that led the whole length of the school, as we were admiring what a great shot it would make, a shadowy figure side stepped into the hall in the far distance! all I could make out in the split second was a beany hat similar to what I wear and dark clothing. We were going to duck into the room to our left but it was too late and the figure had spotted us but also darted out of site!
At this point I looked at Thomas and said "Explorer" we both nodded and decided to make out presence known we quickly made our way up to the location we saw the figure, actually wondering if it was the right move or not, took a turn to the left then walked straight into a library room where non other than @dansgas1000 and @Wastelandr were!
It turns out that we had both thought about going to the same place on the same day, it was our first meeting with Dan and we had a good chat but we know @Wastelandr very well and were due to meet up with him in the coming weeks anyway
After a catch-up we left them to their photography, (unlike us they both had proper cameras unlike my mobile phone so I expect they captured some great shots that day
)
We made our way through to the science section and backtracked the same way as we came in. Overall a great start to this years exploring and we are pleased to have bumped into the the two guys as well.
We then went to get a well deserved Pie and Mash
Thanks for looking!
Part 2 to follow..
