History
The Bobsleigh Hotel, in Bovingdon, closed on November 23rd 2014 – after owners Macdonald Hotels said it was “no longer operating at a viable level”.
The closure lead to many distraught couples with no venue just months before their big day.
It had 46 bedrooms some with 4 poster beds and jacuzzi baths
The hotel lies within the Green Belt in the open countryside within a wooded
setting. It occupies an elongated (120m) and prominent frontage to Hempstead Road
There are fields to the south west and south east. The south western field was subject
to a refusal of planning permission for Travellers.
Highcroft Trailer/ Caravan/ Mobile Home Park is located behind the site frontage
buildings. It is now in a semi derelict condition with two of the 11 homes occupied.
At some point after closure the hotel was used as a place to train police dogs and in August 2019 councillors were asked whether it could be partly demolished and replaced with a residential development of 36 apartments and 24 houses – with the original ‘main’ part of the hotel retained and converted into flats.
The Explore
After spending pretty much a whole day researching trying to find this place little did I know there was already a report on here!
So after a morning of failure with 2 other explores I left them behind and headed back home.
On the way back I thought I’d try 1 last place and it seemed my luck was finally in.
Altough saying that i must have been in here for literally 5 mins standing in 1 of the rooms sorting my camera out when out of nowhere this bloke apeared!.
I actualy nearly shit myself , but thankfully soon after he apeared so did 2 others carrying camera gear.
Turns out they were just other explores.
Considering this place shut is doors way back at the end of 2014 most of the hotel aint looking to bad, chandeliers still hanging, power still on in most rooms, TVs still working.
Then of course there are the 2 mouldy rooms, which are absolutely caked in the stuff. The mattresses look like they've been sprayed with candyfloss or snow or however you wanna look at it but 1 things for they were absolutley vile!
1 of many tv's that still work
A decaying function room
The kitchen
The mouldy suits
I call my next piece "Mould"
Lovely green carpet
Looking prerry clean
Differnt story this side
The main reception area looking like it closed yesterday
Chandeliers still hanging
More mould
Nature creeping in
Huge for poster bed
