I had a little wobble when me and jazzywheelz did the Town Hall recently. This was fucking ridiculous though...
The Diamond is going to be the new home for The University of Sheffield's Faculty of Engineering and is situated on the site of the former Jessops hospital (not to be confused with the modern maternity hospital of the same name). It has two whacking great cranes on it.
To say we'd had our eyes on this would be an understatement. I think a few of us first took a gander back at the Sheffield meet, and even then, they'd been up for a while. Conditions and timings were never right though, so it sat on the back burner for some time.
Eventually myself, jw and tablets got our shit together and met up to climb the tallest of the two cranes. Unbeknownst to us, a certain Sheffield music and entertainment festival was still in full swing that night which meant the streets were packed.
We wandered around a bit and sat around in a door way like bums while we waited for One Direction to fuck off home.
When the coast was eventually clear we made our move. We'd recceed the site that many times that access went ridiculously smoothly and before long we were scaling the yellow steel of the crane.
Tablets really wasn't feeling this one, bless his cotton socks, and didn't hang round too long once we were at the top. Fair play to him for making it that far though. If heights aren't your thing then this is a bit shady really. And once we were out on the counterbalance the fucker swayed around like a bitch.
Altogether a very different experience from the other cranes we've done, though they were babies in comparison!
Anyway, pictures, that's what we've all come here for right?
Needless to say, I felt pretty smug with myself after this one. Onwards and upwards.
