This was once the premiere nightspot in Whitehaven.
Originally a swimming pool (with the coldest water you can imagine), it was closed in the '80's but reopened around 1989 as The Park Nightspot. Open for around 16 years it saw many changes in music come and go, providing entertainment for tens of thousands of people during this time.
Closing its doors in 2004 (from memory) I don't exaggerate when I say that this building shaped peoples' lives. I know that part of what I am today was formed in this place. With so many memories it was quite disturbing to go back one last time.
Now, stripped by the asbestos police and ready for demolition, it is a crying shame. Sadly all the bars and toilets have been completely decimated, I can't think of a reason this was done - surely asbestos wasn't used in their construction? Anyone know?
Some pictures follow, my full gallery is here.
