In 1790 Quaker Hannah Mills died shortly after being admitted to York Asylum (known as Bootham Park Hospital today). Due to the restrictions on visitations and the poor treatment at these asylums the Quaker community reacted by gathering enough funding to open their own asylum, The Retreat in 1796. It is famous for having pioneered the so-called "moral treatment" that became a behaviour model for asylums around the world with mental health issues. Founded by William Tuke, it was originally only for Quakers but gradually became open to everyone. The present day The Retreat seeks to retain the essence of early "moral treatment", while applying the principles to a modern healthcare setting. The Retreat withdrew from the delivery of inpatient services after 222 years on 31 December 2018.
This has apparently laid dormant since the 60’s. It is, or was, as some would say a “time capsule” sadly it’s been gooned out to high hell with some you tubers even live streaming paranormal jibber Jabba from there. So yeah, I imagine this is well sealed, or even empty now.
