Report - The Rising Sun Hotel, Hope Valley, Derbyshire – September 2019

The History

The Rising Sun is a 12 bedroom hotel and public house with a restaurant and function room which closed back in 2017. Parts of the building date back as early as the 18th century, but unfortunately it looks set for demolition in the near future to be replaced by a larger, more modern hotel. There have been a few set-backs so far with planning due to the proposed size of the replacement building which is why The Rising Sun is still sat there today.



The Explore

Completely unplanned, saw it whilst driving to Edale so I pulled over and had a nosey. It looked quite promising externally, but inside is heavily stripped ahead of demolition. Still enough bits & bobs for a quick 30 min blast.

Upstairs in the hotel rooms, lots of pulled up floorboards due to metal theft.

And a bottle of champagne the size of a fire extinguisher (sadly empty)

Lovely building. Nice Jacobean style, very nice shots. Some interesting bits left behind. . Some nice stuff coming from Derbyshire :

There seems to be someone living in here to the right hand side as you look at the front is their bedroom, drove past it later on and the light was on, this was a couple of weeks ago

It's the big static caravan that's occupied I think

No lights in the caravan, at the right you've got the little bit you can walk through next to a small... work shop? The window to your left is the bedroom

There was a light on when I went round the back in a little room but didn't see any signs of life there

Well worth a look inside then and good to get some shots before it's demolished, like the one of the champagne bottle!
