In 1869 the publican of this historic pub was Thomas Hargreaves however he would die on the site of the pub on the 17th of March 1869 leaving his widow Frances to take over the license right up until 1881.
The Sun Hotel pub was used regularly during the war they had many rooms those of which were deemed “special” such as the men only room, None smoking room, a snug for women and a tap room, You could often see smoke coming out of the doors when they were opened. The last recorded landlords I could find of this historic pub were a lady called Gail and a gentleman called Phil, The Sun Hotel pub closed it’s doors for the final time in 2013 and is very unlikely to make a return.
A quick stop off on the way home from another explore once inside it was clear to see that this was yet another pub which had seen a fire at some point in it’s history, The charred barstools still lay on the floor near to the bar and very little remain of the upper levels, However the bar and the seating areas remain in a surprisingly reasonable condition with some of the beer pumps attached to the bar. Another fun day in the city of Leeds.
