As many will know I am going through a big crisis in my life at the moment, although things are now starting to look better. Nice of @Lord Oort to pop round to offer support and we took the opportunity to do those sites in Wiltshire that are just too crap to be done in normal times. So let's start with an epic derp and prepare for a derptastic experience...
HISTORY
Founded 1991. An 18-hole parkland course with trees and lakes designed by MRM Sandow Ltd. The course measured 6300yards with a par of 70. There was also a 20 bay floodlit driving range. The clubhouse had catering and conference facilities. Visitors were welcome weekdays and weekends after 11.30am, green fees were £18.00 during the week and £24 on Saturday and Sunday. The professional was Tony Isaacs and the secretary/manager Jean Pearce. At its prime the club had a membership of 400. The course closed in 2002. In 2012 it was reported that the course, which had been unused for 10 years, had gained planning permission for a hotel, spa, gym, treatment room and function facilities, with the proviso that the course was restored.
As for why it closed, a few reviews I found on the interwebby thing:
"As for the course, well I'm afraid to say it was not very good at all. The condition was appalling and the green staff have clearly never been told about adding some rough. Off the tee you simply will not find an easier course. It's wide open with no danger coming into play for the better players. As for its defences around the greens, well they would hardly make you shake in your boots. The green side bunkers can only be described as sand pits."
"This is definitely a golfing experience to forget... poor design, poor layout, even worse condition. Enough said. 0/10"
As of November 2021 the site is being used by a company that offers activity days for children. They operate out of a portacabin in the car park and not from the building seen in this report.
REPORT
As I said, the grounds are now used as a children's outdoor adventure centre, hence the folded up climbing wall
Main entrance, now obviously locked
Definitely at the right place
And inside.... err o dear. Just how does a place end up looking like this
Bar on the top floor
The actual golf course is long gone and now provides grazing for sheep
More destruction on the top floor
Heading downstairs
The main bar is downstairs
I think it would had looked cheap even when open
Well I suppose the carpet still looks fresher than a Wetherspoons carpet
A third bar, surrounded by piles of rubbish
Between the bars
The only thing of note in the whole building
Which reminds me, I have just finished the photo shoots for the Offical Bollockbrains 2022 Calender, priced just £7.99 - enquires via PM please
A group shot
Well that was a waste of time for all. Thanks for reading
(I didn't sell it well, did I?)
