Back in May this year, I did the first part (of hopefully many) Italy trips on the search for abandoned places to photograph and explore.
Thankfully in my research before going, I found a nice old Asylum pretty close to where I was flying into so we landed at the airport and thought "why not". What's better than getting off a plane and knowing your first Urbex Treat is only just a small drive away!
This place had sadly not been saved from graffiti but looking beyond that there were so many good features which I hope I have managed to capture well enough for others to enjoy.
The place was such a relaxed explore and a good couple of hours was spent here. I loved the corridors the most, and getting out onto the top of the building to walk across the complex and observe the whole site in it's entirety was really cool!
HISTORY:
The sanatorium opened in 1924 and completely fulfilled the hospitalisation requirements of Tuberculosis patients. More areas were built in both 1929 and 1930 following a need for expansion.
From 1955 the site shifted toward becoming a mixed use sanatorium and hospital and was used like this up until the 1970's. From the 1970's onward it functioned more as a general hospital right up until it's closure. The hospital closed in 2015.
