Twin Turbo, Manchester
(Work 4 Sewer)
Another one of Manchester's intercepting sewers and bredrin of Hulme Flume and the Davyhulme boys
Constructed circa 1913, (Largely an 8ft brick pipe) this interceptor receives flow from other connecting transverse sewers along the way to the WwTW
Located on the outskirts of Hulme this 2.5m super sharp p00p-shooter fires some serious nuggets, intercepting upstream of Hulme Flume which eventually becomes the 'A' outfall sewer down to the works
Props to Little Mike/SL/Scott, originally named by Sneak
This one ticks 2 boxes for me 'Twin Turbo' was something I had wanted to see for some time now
Yet despite pestering a few people over the last couple of years and some failed lid lifting (not like I hadn't tried) I was none the wiser
Once I started to follow 'Work 4' via staring down various manhole shafts, yet being unable to traverse it due to the nature of the beast I had all but given up on that too
Memories were fading and may days of popping lids in the Hulme area were long over
The real annoyance being that I always knew within a street or two there was this place, and even more annoyingly popped a nearby lid over 2 years ago almost opposite and walked on by unknowingly
At a loose end myself and Moorsy went for a mooch (big up), his memory of the area and my previous street level wanderings managed to hit the right lid first time...
..Continuing upstream of Hulme Flume
One slight problem the lid was bang in the middle of a road again in a fairly busy area (and a twat to budge)..
Deploy roadblocks
Make no mistake, this is far from epic or whatever, but more another piece in the jigsaw and believe me it felt good staring down that shaft finally!
(or up as is the case)
4m down some rusty step irons you hit a concrete walkway above the 2 sewers
(Infact just to the left you can see the upper reaches of Hulme flume)
The pics make it look clean it wasn't, anyway I climbed down a further 3 or 4 metres to another walkway which seperates the junction in which the 2 sewers run parallel
Firstly (to the left), Hulme Flume (upper) 3.6m RBP
The other side of the walkway (to the right) 'Work 4' sewer runs parallel via a 2.5m RBP
Apologies, but the pics deteriorated here as it was steamy as hell, I managed to climb down the final rungs underneath the walkway
The space in between serves as another balancer, it was slippery as hell and the impeding mist of shite made pics almost impossible to the point I gave up..
Finally I attempted to take this shot looking up and thought I heard voices from above so decided to bail
Above ground curtains were twitching and like all previous visits to the area we had once again started to attract some unwanted attention
