The Tube Studio was built to broadcast the TUBE from TYNE TEES TV in Newcastle Live on Channel 4 5-7 pm each Friday in the 80s/90's. Many hundreds of legendary music performances came from this studio, and these pictures were taken only a few days before demolition on the whole Tyne Tees site started. After TTTV moved out, it stood empty fro a while and then for a few months this space was used by a church group, who left the stuff lying around in the pictures. The studio was by far the biggest in the region and had stages across each of the rooms 4 corners where the bands performed, with the audience in the middle with the cameras. The programme was presented By Lesley Ash, Jools Holland and Paula Yates.
This picture is of the entrance from the stairs leading directly from the Tube (glass entrance tunnel)
This is the Studio metal doors leading from the main Tyne Tees building
The stairs leading to the tv control gallery
The massive studio lighting grid. Many hundreds of tv lights hung on long extension arms down to just above the audiences heads for transmissions
Looking across the main floor area where the audience stood surrounded by stages on 4 sides across eack of the studios corners
Another shot of the control room. The audio mix studio was through doors and to the left, the vision control gallery where the production team, directors , visionmixer etc was, to the right.
Another shot of the lighting gris, but with the massive curtain tracks that hels acoustic curtains up. These were heavy duty floor to ceiling curtains (black)
The scene dock area under the control gallery. Scenery and cameras etc would be stored / prepared for use.
