I planned this little visit with the intention of it being a double whammy, however I only managed to get into one of the buildings - and not the one I most wanted to (which is about right) Both buildings have recently been sold, they are not listed so are likely to be flattened and replaced by flats.
The United Reformed Church is a Victorian building with an adjacent detached Sunday School from the same period. Both properties are of red brick construction with stone detailing. The Church is of a traditional layout with nave and transepts incorporating a raised pulpit, choir stalls and organ (or so I am told!) There is a first floor gallery and two rooms at lower ground floor with external access.
The Sunday School houses a main hall with side extensions, kitchen and toilets. There is an un-used first floor gallery with a suspended ceiling and two rooms plus former boiler room in the cellar. The Sunday school suffered a fire last year which damaged a games room and caused a floor to collapse.
Access was interesting so not many of the local "nob head fraternity" have gained access yet. The light inside was as shite as my camera so apologies for the not so shiny photos. I am far from done with this one, the church will be conquered!
