Introduction
Myself and @JakeV50 spent a couple of days in the Manchester area looking at some old mills, amongst other stuff. Although relatively successful, the weekend was cut short due to car troubles.
I suppose this report is more of an update of a place which has seen much better days, rather than a detailed and comprehensive look at the history of the site, as it has been covered numerous times previously and is certainly not very exciting considering the condition it is in now.
Information & History
The mill is located in the Stockport suburb of Woodley. It was constructed in the 1860s for spinning cotton and was formerly known as Trianon Mill. Around three decades after opening, the mill was converted into a rubber works and then later a textile mill as before. The site was also used for the manufacture of animal feed and closed down in 2003.
The site overlooks the Peak Forest Canal and has been derelict since closure. During the last few years, the surrounding extensions of the main building have been demolished, and the window frames were removed around the same time.
The Explore
Initially, the perimeter looked quite secure but we managed to find a way in near the front and found an even easier way out. We spent around an hour here, it was extremely foggy but made for some atmospheric photos. Even though it is a complete shell, I enjoyed it. In clear conditions, you can see the Manchester skyline from the top, but unfortunately, the visibility was poor due to the fog.
Thanks to @TalkingMask for reminding us of this place.
Photos
We started at the top and worked our way down. Each level was very similar.
The main gates
A small extension at the rear was saved from the recent demolition efforts, judging by the architecture and size I am guessing this was the engine house
Thanks for looking.
