Report - W H Shaw Pallet works - Diggle - Dec 19

Late to the party again here but when @HughieD suggested popping in here it was a no brainer. combined with the fact that there was a possibility to meet the Godfather of Shaw's @The Lone Ranger I was super excited.

The site had already been partly cleared ready for demo by the time of my visit but most the buildings remained, of course it was the infamous clock tower that beckoned but The Lone Ranger knew this was now locked up & a certain piece of "access equipment" had also been removed, so it was a no go?

Well I wasnt having that & with the confidence in numbers we began the rather foolhardy access but boy it was worth it.

Fortunately the tower is listed & will remain though I believe the rest of the site has now gone ready for redevelopment

This place is soo photogenic, Im sure these are repeats of what you have seen before but here is the rest

I just remember the pigeon shit and alarm going off every 5 minutes, I didn't get in the sky corridor but used a ladder to get in the clock tower, it used to be always knocking about somewhere but seems they wised up to it lol. At the time of my report i didn't get much further than the room with the open window but during a second visit at night i got round all the admin building like you. I also had the guy in the white van come out but he didn't come in the building. Its a lot emptier since I did it, there used to be loads of injection moulding stuff stored in the end building but it was a bugger/fun to get into that part. There may be pics in my thread, I can't remember.

The clock was 'vandalised' very soon after shutting, its said and thought it was the owners behind that so it didn't get listed maybe. Offers from many to reinstate it were refused and the old guy who serviced it was quite upset as it was a great example of that model.

Yeah I heard there was a guy who used to look after the clock.

Great shots and nice report! This looked like a great site, shame barely any of it remains! Most of it got knocked down to make way for the new school. The clock tower still stands but everything else has gone. I recently shot some drone footage there during lockdown. If you wanna see whats left it's HERE

Didn't think it was too bad considering but I'm sure there were some bits that were a bit ify
