Visited with Cunningcorgi
We were passing so popped in for a quick look, Been done a few times, totally trashed inside these days and nothing like its former self, a fire have put paid to this place and there doesn't seem anyway back for it. It is a hard place to photograph it as its an odd shape and is totally overgrown in some parts, but this place is bigger than it looks and is worth a look if you are in the area. I think as little as 5 years ago this building still had some original equipment in most of the rooms, today just the odd thing here an there.
Some history (Not too much around for this place)
A submerged bunker built in the increasing frost of the 1951 Cold War. It can still be partially seen from Wenallt Road, on BT property, south-east of the phone mast.
Originally Wennallt was to become a War Room for Wales, taking over from Coryton but this idea was abandoned in the late 1970s.
The site was a vital ops room and later BT’s emergency control centre for Wales. It had dormitories, canteen, sick bay, water storage, air filtration, power generators and a pulse-proofed Faraday-caged communications room.
