Visits with friends from August 2015 to July 2016..... the first time we went here was a real task and a mission to enter but on my last visit after trying all the usual points and an almost epic fail, we wondered past the front gates and they were wide open, couldn't believe our luck ..... it would have been rude not too!!!
A Bit of History..... :
The spring industry in the area was well known with West Bromwich Albion, with players and fans employed at the factories.
The ‘Helical Works’ of West Bromwich Spring Co. Ltd was at the forefront of precision manufacturing from 1896. The business’ website once offered precision springs made to order: Any Design. Any Quantity. Any Time.
In the 1960's more than 450 people employed at the site.
The more recent history of the site is less clear. Rumour has it that the owner suddenly abandoned the site shortly after spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on machinery which failed to work and failed safety checks in 2007.
Whilst a large portion of the site continues to decline into dereliction, approximately a quarter of it is still rented out to private businesses by the original owner, who is never seen in person.
