Visited Westwood a couple of weeks back, but it is such a great place that a return visit had to be on the cards.

That opportunity arose today, in the fine company of Tommo, Trailblazer and klempner69.

Like many of the Wiltshire quarries this place has been put to a variety of uses, including use as a mushroom farm and as a shadow factory for the production of Royal Enfield motorcycles during WW2.

Our first port of call, the former mushroom farming chambers.

Totally stripped, and cleaner than just about any other quarry in the area this area is most notable for the state of many of its supporting columns which have been reinforced with ‘f*ck-me-big’ chains to discourage their demise…..

And on towards the ‘live’ area which may, or may not, have just a little to do with our old friends Wansdyke!!!

.......... sorry, I'll get me coat.

Working toilets? winnar

Point is that these are not connected to a traditional sewer, one flush here and your DNA is delivered straight to Wansdykes laboratory.

They have the DNA profile of every explorer that has pissed, crapped, spat or sweated within the whole of Wiltshire.

Those boxes shown in my report hold files on each of us

a-mazin pictures - gutted to have missed out on yet another trip here.

'Twas a pitty you had prior plans - but that being said, your plans for the day sounded epic, hope they panned out, and look forward to the report!

Catch you soon mate :thumb

it was more epic than last time - and yet another close encounter with The Man - this time though he had a torch and we could see him coming!
