I cannot keep away from Wolverton and recently i clocked up my tenth visit since May 2014. To celebrate the occasion i got rather wet, but nothing could ever dampen my love of this classic train derp.

Wolverton railway works was established in Wolverton, Buckinghamshire by the London and Birmingham Railway Company in 1838 at the midpoint of the 112 miles (180 km)-long route from London to Birmingham. The line was developed by Robert Stephenson following the great success of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway line.

The Victorian era new towns of Wolverton and New Bradwell were built to house the workers and service the works. The older towns of Stony Stratford and Newport Pagnell grew substantially too, being joined to it by a tramway and branch line (known as the "Newport Nobby"), respectively. The trams were also hauled by steam locomotives: the tram cars were certainly the largest ever in the UK and possibly the world. In modern times Wolverton railway works remains notable as the home of the British Royal Train but otherwise is very much reduced from its heyday.

As of 2013, the facility is much reduced: a full-scale train maintenance, repairs and refurbishment works is operated at the western end of the site, the central area is derelict but slated for redevelopment, the eastern end is a Tesco store with canal-side housing development at the extreme eastern end.

With the inevitable bouts of uncontrollable laughter brought about by the latest voyage subsiding, it was time to steady my machine for a few snaps.

The tune 'Welcome to the jungle, it gets worse here everyday...' springs to mind:

4. At this point i would like to say i have attempted to omit in my report the scrawls of pathetic graffiti tags, smashed windows, destroyed signs and train doors. All this damage has occurred in the last two months. A wanky 'tag' has even appeared on the long training school sign. This place stood untouched for decades slowly finding its way back to mother nature and now it is at the mercy of the local low life.

8. This machine was still located on floor one back in May. Perhaps some of the local low life are underneath it.

worked on track literally round corner from here a time or two, but I've always been in bright oranges so never had chance for a mooch :(

Good place this, even if it's going downhill. Last time I went we spent about an hour in the basements, at the end of which I had some pretty bad breathing problems. Should have taken a mast duh! Also the rack used to be full of metal shims, all of which seem to have gone now...

Many thanks guys, sure is a special place.

Demolition does appear to be on the cards, with a new housing estate built on the present live railway works, whilst a new repair facility is built towards the gate before the canal bridge.

I only remember the rack full of metal shims in the tool sharpening ELS, which is now mostly collapsed. The buildings get worse everyday if course, don't go in a stiff breeze! :)

Just come back from there, I went in by the canoe route, via the cellars, had a good mooch about in the dark, but the upper level floor is rotten and i didn't risk it, its a death trap, the floors and roofs are hanging by cobwebs.

There is planning permission in place, and its all being demolished or refurbished soon.

It's still standing !?
Sweet Jesus, it was a death trap when Weasel and I visited couple of years back. Surely there isn't still glass in the spray shop roof?

Still a place that hasn't been vandalised much, so its still interesting when you find things as they were left. But I wouldn't sneeze in there in case the whole lot collapsed. I will try to go back in the day time and take some pictures, if i can find my hard hat.

At least I can tick it off my list now.

Good to see the "Explorer" is still in action with minimal puncture repairs? Lol.

I'm liking your detail shots mate, especially that first one with the leaves and spiders web :)

Thanks guys :)

There's lots to see here for the eagled eyed, there was always something i had missed, and that was with ten visits! Wolverton is unique in retaining such an extensive derp within its premises, so many major railway works are sadly, no longer with us at all.

Always tread carefully here of course and check the weather - anything more than a stiff breeze means try another day...

You missed a lot of the good stuff then but apparently you have loads of new stuff but aren't going to post as you threw your dummy out your pram.

I smell bullshit!
