This yard bought redundant steam loco's from British Rail, since the early 1960's, but then found it more profitable to cut up wagons. The result was a dump of some 250 engines, in various stages of decay, less the brass and copper!
Visiting at 06.30, so as to be round before the workforce arrived, we were amazed at the size of the site, with rail items all over the place.
Some locos were the subject of preservation appeals and had been painted.
Finally, almost all the engines were preserved, eventually, and the site was cleared.
