Wredon Quarry near Cauldon Lowe first developed in the 1970s as the sibling of nearby Wardlow Quarry. It was closed/mothballed in the 2000s by its then owners Tarmac. The intention is to bring it back into use as part of one large operation with Wardlow. Most structures are intact minus copper cable! The Lab at the top contains some interesting samples and equipment along with a very rotten floor!
Prior to visiting here we visited a nearby disused rail tunnel which extended for around 400yards before ending in a pile of soil which forms the blocked norther portal. Randomly there was a tiny plant growing in the pile of soil sustained by the pinprick of light 400yards away (see last pic)
emergency shower, operated by a pressure plate in case of burns.
obviously stuck there by a keen bird watcher, there were a few blue tits and robins at the site....
The Tunnel....
Thanks for looking!
