Zuby Fashions, Manchester – August 2013
Visited with NickUK
Excellent form by Host as usual in uncovering this little gem for us – thank god there’s still some real explorers out there! Having spent 7 years living in the city until last summer, it’s quite embarrassing to have this sort of place under your nose and be totally oblivious to it.
I met up with Nick and we paid for an hour’s parking on the site of the now demolished Hat & Feathers pub… we had plenty of time to spare. It’s a small building, with a history of being occupied by different small clothing manufacturers stretching back at least 30 years, seemingly occupying different floors of the building. I found about 5 different company names from quickly searching the address, with some court records indicating Zuby Fashions went into liquidation here as far back as 1986. I suspect loads of clothing and fashion-type firms have come and gone since.
The upper floors are full of pigeons and mountains of their associated poo. The ground floor is in better condition and has a real atmosphere. We didn’t even have a proper rummage around, but there were still loads just left strewn about all over the workshop.
The smell of derp followed us around all day after this one.
