Callender Square Shopping Centre
Built in the 1960s on the site of Silver Row, the Callendar Centre was demolished in the late 1980s. The center was not well-liked by shoppers and the Central Regional Council, the landlord, recognized that it needed more than a facelift. Construction of the new Callendar Square began in 1989, but was delayed due to a recession. The 125,000 sq ft covered mall has three levels, a multi-storey car park, and frontages to the High Street, Callendar Riggs, and Kerse Lane. Falkirk Council purchasing Callendar Square in 2023 to make way for a new Falkirk Town Hall. Demolition began in 2024.
Visited with @jtza @DustySensorPhotography and Alex. Quite a classic trespass eve looking back, arrived at Falkirk earlier than expected, went drinking on the town and then visited the mall during the night. I anticipated that there was a guard in there during the day due to a little bit of popularity on social media, so the night time infiltration was a safer bet. Without realising it, we soon found that the majority of Falkirk's town centre is abandoned, and we spend a good hour or so passing through neighbouring stores and a hotel to reach the area of building we wanted. Eventually, we made it into the mall and was glad to see the lights remained working. The central atrium was a great sight with probably the biggest skylight I've seen in any mall. After spending a couple hours wandering the apocalyptic floors, we left just before sunrise.
Gym.
Him.
Here is our video we made at Callender Square, a better watch than the pictures imo, but then again, I would say that wouldn't I:
