Now known as Cherry Tree Hospital, dating back to its foundation year of 1880, the site was also titled Stockport Infection Diseases Hospital up until 1948, a reference to Whitehill Sanatorium is also noted. Prior to 1948, the hospital was used for the isolation of patients with diseases, particularly Tuberculosis, with a separate ward being provided for Typhoid sufferers. After 1948, the level of care was widened to accommodate other illnesses and ailments. Extensive ground works including soil sampling and clearances have taken place over the past year with the view of building homes on the site. The internals have been rinsed of any value.
I had seen a few mentions of Cherry Tree on this site and as it was only a bus trip away i decided I'd go and take a look, unfortunately i had to go alone which created a very eerie feel throughout the hospital. This was a large explore, there were around 6 buildings i managed to enter, a couple of wards, a lab, a school area, and some other random side buildings.
I came across this room in the first building i entered, it had a box full of video tapes simply named 'Cherry Tree Hospital' and the date. i of course took a souvenir.
What is this used for? :S
I think part of this hospital was still actually in use, almost bumped into staff a good few times!
