Visted: Forsaken, Horus
Phase One of Middlehaven, the bold new concept for Middlesbrough’s redundant dock area, comprises an eight storey mixed use building called ‘Community in a Cube’ (CIAC). Built on the edge of the Middlehaven Dock and over challenging existing ground conditions. CIAC comprises sections extracted from its form within a structural sway frame. The substructure of the building has challenging aspects as CIAC straddles the historic, buried dock wall beneath. One Planet Living aspirations are at the forefront of the design to produce a legacy that includes exposed concrete soffits to deliver thermal mass, roof gardens and rain water harvesting.
