Simply stunning is the only way to describe this pumping station, to be fair it needs no introduction once you step inside you are simply in ore of this magnificent piece of engineering and attention to detail, its a crime that it's not a museum, i would pay to visit it no problem. the pump house has seen quite a lot of visitors recently and I'm sure more will follow i just hope that it will in this condition and not attract metal thieves. for those who haven't made it i would highly recommend it well worth the drive no matter where your from.
Built in 1866/1880 by the south shields & sunderland water works it was designed by Thomas Hawsley, the engine house contains a pair of 72'' single acting non rotative cornish beam engines by Davy Bros of Sheffield dating 1870's. there is a lot more history on this but personally if you want to get to know it go and see it..
