Drayton Parslow Pumping Station
Delving into the archives for this one. On a warm spring morning, we found ourselves in Buckinghamshire on another pump hunting trip. I believe this trip was quite successful from memory.
This was one of Dan's finds. Luckily he's already reported on it, so I've shamelessly used some of the information he found as there is limited history online.
The pumping station was built in the late 1960s-1970s, judging by the construction materials of the building and equipment left. Inside there are three electric split case pumps each with their own control box and a master control panel stood tall in the corner. There are a few various pressure gauges dotted around inside too.
Moving outside the station, we find spring bluebells starting to sprout up, and just the right amount of decay on the building. No graffiti here. Around the back of the building is an Irish registered Ford Mondeo estate which has been torched. It has done well to get round there, the gate to the site is quite small, and the fence around is close to the building, so I'm surprised the fences are all still standing. The fire spread to the building very slightly, taking out the roof which was quite handy really, as it allowed a nice amount of light inside.
The site is currently under private ownership after being auctioned off by Anglian Water on 19th September 2019, with a sale price of £47,000. The current owner attempted to get planning permission to construct a two bed, one storey home on the site but planning officers blocked the scheme believing "a new home in the unsustainable location would be an incongruous addition to the rural landscape"
