Durham Palladium Explore - November 2014
Evening all, and apologies for my absence from the forum, this is my first report in well over a year (so I have a lot to post, starting with my most recent explore!)
Anyway, best get on with it! Visited Durham Palladium with Borolad and a non member, with what I have to say where low expectations for this place... Pleased to say I was pleasantly surprised though, turned out to be an excellent explore, mainly due to the Projector room in all honesty, really into analog photography and that sort of thing (Can probably tell from my choice of camera, Nikon's Df).
Ok, so a little history! The Cinema first opened its doors on the 18th of March 1929, airing the 'Garden of Allah'. The cinema was damaged by fire on the 16th of January 1934, but can't have been damaged too badly as it reopened on March 5th the same year! Not much seems to have happened between here and 1967 when the Palladium was given a refurb and general re spruce up re opening with the airing of 'The Bible in the Beginning'. The cinema then closed in 1976, reopening as a bingo hall up until 1982 when it became a church! I'm not sure how long it operated as a church for, but I do know it has lain empty since 2004, and 10 years of water damage is sadly beginning to show...
Best bit now, the pictures
Looking down on the stage from the raised seating.
The Bar, nearly went through the floor in here... :/
Looking up at the stands from the Stage area.
Wizards room, never bumped into Wizard, not sure if he's still in residence? But he seems to be a pleasant chap, check the note on the door out!
Seating...
The Projector Room.
Film Reels
Best not upload too many more anyway, or I might break the forum?! More on flickr at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/57652513@N05/
Thanks for reading, plenty more to come from me soon!
