access was a bit sketchy but well worth the effort,
it's a shame seeing such a grand building deteriorating & being held by scaffolding.

The building was designed by Thomas Shelmerdine & opened as a library in 1896,
the library closed in 1999 & the building was used by community groups until 2006.
because of the buildings poor condition it's on the Victorian society's at risk register,
was grade 2 listed in July 1966.

What an unusual designed building. A bit gothic looking in part. I love the stairs and tiles in this place
