Report - Foley House, Braintree May 2019

Saw this pop up almost as soon as I got back from the States and thought I'd try and get in before the tourbus inevitably rocked up, seemed to work although the amazing asylum box had already grown legs and walked out the building....

Turned out to be a pretty decent mooch, for a care home occupying a former manor house, like a less trashed and slightly less grand Westbury.

Foley (originally Folly) House, a Barnardo's Home, was opened as a Barnardo's home in 1946. Originally accommodating thirty boys, it switched to being a mixed home from 1954 to 1960 and then again from 1972 onwards until its final closure in March 1981. In recent times, the premises have housed a residential home for the deaf.

In January 2016 the home was branded inedequate by the CQC and it closed in June of that year. It was placed up for sale in October 2017 and has just recently sold.

The site is in such good condition! I am particularly impressed by the red carpet. It usually takes moisture quickly! Good find

There were some nice old dinky cars up in the loft, probably worth quite a bit of money. Have they disappeared now as well??

It is indeed, @Landie_Man went the other day. I've not seen many photos of it around but then again I don't really pay attention to the urbex groups on there.

I went here yesterday evening couldn’t gain access after a very long drive, one of the windows was open a little but so small as it had a catch no way it would open without breaking it.

Don't know about sealed but theres plenty of those camera/ lights/ speaker tripod things around it , you know the ones that shout at you . They have to see you first though
