This was built on the site of a boxing ring, opening in 1934 as the 2670 seater Paramount and owned by Paramount Theatres Ltd. Taken over by Odeon in 1942 and re-named, it became part of the Rank Organisation. Full stage facilities were provided, including a Compton organ. Closing as a single screen on 26 June 1968, it was twinned, re-opening on 26 March 1969. the format was 2 screens, one above the other. Odeon 2 was further sub-divided into 3 screens in 1973 and the bar became screen 5 in 1979. more screens were added later, but the lot closed when a purpose built 12 sceeen Odeon opened in Liverpool One shopping development.
Most of the interior was stripped out, but following 2 years of proposals for re-use, demolition was authorised. I was permitted a first(and last) look before the work commenced, so here it is!
