First used as a hospital in 1920, the building has gradually been worn down, with the closure of the Ascot Birth Centre, Minor Injuries Unit and stroke rehabilitation ward all signalling the end of the line.
And now £90 million plans for a new hospital, as well as 250 homes, have been approved by Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead councillors.
The closure of the hospital was first agreed in 2013 following a lengthy consultation, despite several campaign groups fighting against the plans and finally closed late last year.
The explore, having already visiting the site a couple weeks before but cutting it short due to it getting dark and not wanting to use torches that might alert secca then getting caught in the snow on way home we decided we would return in daylight and figuring new years day would be good as secca mite be tired and hung over from the night before and what better way to start the year than with an explore. since our first visit several people had also decided to explore it and and a result secca had blocked the easy way in we took previously but fortunately we had been told other ways. Once on site we stuck to inside the buildings to be safe at one point thinking secca was doing the rounds but turned out to be another explorer despite them putting security on site almost every buildings doors were wide open may as well of put welcome mats down the explore was fairly uneventful due to only one car and van on site although the next day there were apparently 3 vans with dog units so we definitely picked the right day. All round a good explore made better by the fact it didn't take 4 hours to get home due to bloody snow like last time
