After a tip off from my mate paul we decided to give this place a little look. Not realising how busy this beautiful area would be on a sunny Sunday afternoon we finally got parked up. Taking the trek up the road to it we met loads of people. Thankfully the building is well out the tourist route way. was not really sure what to expect from this had not seen pics before from it. We were pleasantly surprised going in, lovely glazed brick are plentiful in the main treatment hall. and the ceiling is beautiful. It is a shame the main hall is stripped though, some modernisation can be seen throughout the building. But lots off original bits remain inside. The treatment works were built in 1912 to filter water from the nearby reservoir. This was then transferred to the local homes and local companies. the building has stood empty now for over twenty years. It had twenty four state of the art free standing mechanical filters. The plant shut when a new treatment works was opened near Stockport and water diverted to the new plant. The works was put on the market but as of yet, nothing has happened to it.
The external of the building is rather large and grand.
The treatment hall is rather grand and some lovely light in it.
Loved the original solid white panelled wood doors.
The old pipe that brought the water in for filtration from the reservoir View attachment
To the side of the main hall some service rooms, with steps leading upstairs. some false walls have been put in.
Upstairs is a sort of tank system, maybe a filtration system.
