1. The History
The former Molson Coors brewery is located on a prominent 5.23 acre site on Station Street in the Staffordshire town of Burton-upon-Trent. Dating back approximately a century-and-a-half, it was originally constructed by the Bass Brewing Company in 1864. The current site is mainly modern, apart from two older Grade II listed four storey buildings which were built back in the late 1900s. Sitting opposite to the currently operating Molson Coors brewery to which it was connect until 2019 by a metal bridge until it was removed, the site was acquired via a partnership between Canadian brewing company Molson and USA based Coors, sometime in the 2000s. It represented a major employer in the area until the entire site was placed on care and maintenance in 2017, before finally being closed and decommissioned a year later in 2018.
The site has now been predominantly stripped and is on the market, and although the newer buildings are most likely going to be demolished, the two listed buildings will need to be retained. The site has planning consent for 284 apartments, a 154-key aparthotel plus retail, leisure and office usage.
2. The Explore
Staying nearby to Burton, it was a no brainer to pop into town and see what was explorable. With work starting on the former law courts, my attentions quickly turned to the former Molson-Coors brewery. Initially spotted a way in but it was a bit exposed and tricky. However, further investigation yielded a far easier way. So, after an initial reccie, it was up early the next morning and off to the site.
Once in, I didn't see a soul as made my way round the extensive site and its various buildings. The newer parts are now pretty much stripped and of lesser interest, but the two older listed buildings merited the effort. Plus of course, the views from the top of the new block also made this an enjoyable explore.
3. The Photographs
Impressive from the outside in the sun!
Loving the beer barrel fountain too!
In we go:

And out the other side:
On to the hopper area:
Very photogenic:
World of pipes:
Over to the first of the two older buildings:
Up to the top floor and the hoppers:
And back down again:
Love this vintage door:
Looking across to the silos:
And back down:
