Visited with @Chloe Explores and @Nightfox
This was our last explore of the day but the first I’m posting. Amazing network of tunnels that I must admit I didn’t feel overly happy in, there’s a fair bit of water dripping down from the ceiling and it felt really cramped in places, I think the entry point freaked me out a bit due to being a small space to slide through on my back (I can’t crawl).
Fascinating to see and explore, the newspaper articles in there dated from 1944. A fair amount of rusty things and equipment in there and spiders unfortunately. I know it’s where you would expect to find them but I can’t bear the big ones. Exiting was far worse than getting in as a big hairy beast of a spider was guarding the hole. Was like Aragogs forest lol. I had to literally pulled out of the hole by Nightfox once through as I couldn’t get up or get a grip with my feet, very closely followed by Chloe.
Still, was fun and enjoyable if you take away my fears. Got absolutely filthy here, looked like I had been in a mud bath.
History -
very little to be found...
It’s a little-known fact that, back in the 1940’s, the headquarters of General Montgomery’s SE Command was based in caves deep inside the chalk slopes of Reigate Hill. A secret bunker was mined inside the chalk quarry , It contained 3,000 feet of tunnels and was designed to be gas and shell-proof. The tunnels were dug by Welsh miners and the Royal Engineers
