The first of two tunnels that day, visited with King Mongoose.
Morcott tunnel is 448 yards long, and the north portal is located in the village of the same name. Opened in 1851, on the LNWR line, it was closed to passenger traffic in 1966. The station was located to the north of the village.
I first visited the tunnel 18 years ago, and it has become extremely overgrown since then, so had to persevere to get there. The south portal is flooded, but one side is accessible. Tunnel is starting to need more than a paint job, but to be fair it is 160 years old.
