I went for a mooch up here early this month but don't know a lot about it. I did find this taken from here - http://www.christinewhiteheadphotography.co.uk/section144113_42545.html
:
"Some of the underground workings were enormously complex. At one time it was possible to enter levels in Gunnerside Gill and, via crosscuts and waygates, to pass through the Surrender Mines and emerge at the mouth of Old Moulds Level in Arkengarthdale, a total distance of seven and a half miles."
Imagine if you could still do that now?
I didn't get many pics but here's the best of the few I did get.
If you go for a look here make sure you've got waders. I didn't so had to spend a few hours mooching with welloes full of cold water.
The smelt mill, or what's left of it...
