Nottingham Heritage Railway

​

The Nottingham Heritage Railway (formerly known as Great Central Railway (Nottingham) and Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre) is a heritage railway and transport museum beside of the village of Ruddington in Nottinghamshire.
The route consists of almost 10 miles (16 km) of the former Great Central Railway Main Line from Loughborough South Junction (with the Midland Main Line) to Fifty Steps Bridge and the site of Ruddington's former GCR station, plus a branch line from Fifty Steps Bridge to Ruddington Fields station which is located on a former Ministry of Defence site next to Rushcliffe Country Park.

As is usual with such places we have here a selection of surplus rolling stock slowly rotting away along side the main line. I took a solo wander along here a year or so back & found it quite pleasant.

I'm just glad u stated its a heritage line otherwise u may have had all the train nerds coming after u with pickaxe's shouting "its not abandoned"

Not all of us are violent and anyway I cannot lift a pickaxe these days.

but it is abandoned @westernsultan has just confirmed that to b honest I dont think there has been any rolling stock reported that is truly "abandoned" they are allowed by heritage lines but lets be honest its unlikely any of these will turn a wheel again!

They are not as bad as the traction engine lot anyway

Rolling stock at heritage railways is always in a flux from 0 restoration to 100% restored and abandoned is being kind to this site. Priority for them is to get trains running again on 2.5 miles of their track from Ruddington and Rushcliffe Halt station
