This probably isn't worth a report, it's pretty mundane, but an explore none the less. I joined Fieldy on a road trip to London where we stopped off at Canvey Island to look at this abandonded refinery jetty. The actual refinery part is long gone, bit late to this one
The Occidental site was abandoned in 1975 leaving a half-built oil refinery, storage tanks, and an unused mile long jetty which cost around £10 million of the approximate total of £60 million spent on the project.
It was slightly colder than a snow mans feet and foggy as heck, but that only made it more interesting to wander over. The structure is in pretty good order, it's wide enough to drive a lorry down with passing points here and there along the way.
Oil tankers pull up on a shorter, near by active jetty and unload their cargo.
Thats ice on the hand railings, cold enough for your gloves to stick to should you lean on it.
Worth the two mile walk there and back, just to take in some sea air and get to see an oil tanker fairly close up
