As I run tourist trips to Iraq, (can I plug Dakar Challenge?) I have had the chance to see quite a few places and next trip planned for Dec 2018 if anyone interested. Some areas like the Green zone Baghdad are impossible to access but there is much stuff wide open with no issues re photography, unlike what you might think. Anyway, first side is Saddam's palace at Babylon. The ancient site was ruined by an over restoration with every brick containing Saddam's name. Then the Yanks in 2003 ground up areas when they made it a base during the war.
The site was well looted and the US army was billeted there as can be seen from 2003 graffiti.
On to Basra for another of his palaces sadly guarded so it is necessary to hire a boat but this gives you a billy bonus of passing his yacht, the Al Mansour, and the former port now replaced by a modern container harbour nearer the Gulf.
This vessel was shelled in one of the wars hence the fire damage.
Iraqi offer full in flight catering and streets ahead of BA.
