Wheelwright Grammar Schools were founded due to a bequest made by John Wheelwright (d.1724) in his will. In the 1960's the school had around 450 boys and was administered by the County Borough of Dewsbury Education Committee. The building later became part of Kirklees College as The Batley School of Arts. The Wheelwright Campus was home to all of the art courses, photography, and was also home to sports and fitness courses, due to the large playing field on its grounds. Kirklees College has since began to sell off some of its buildings and the items inside went to auction late 2018. The building is currently under offer for £1,000,000.
Good to meet dad and lad duo @little_ boy_explores on this one. There are 1000 cameras on the outside but I guess they're only as good as whoever is watching, in this case nobody. Having said that it was obvious the power was still on from the outside, which more than likely meant that it was alarmed. It most certainly was and a sound to rival St. Joes from the inside at that. In an attempt to turn it off I ended up also triggering the fire alarm adding to cacophony, which definitely left us with ringing ears. Unfortunately the building has been largely modernised with false ceilings etc. but there is the odd glimpse of original features in the staircase and some parquet flooring. Our next spot was much more interesting but I'll leave that to the others.
