The mine is still open some how after the unfortunate events that occurred. The mine began working in 1908 having 4 drifts under captain cooks monument. connecting up with Hutton lowcross, roseberry,Belmont, and spa wood making it a huge mine. The mine working stopped in 1931 along with many others around the area. There isn’t much to see in this mine due to thieves taking practically everything they can get there hands on 🤦♂️ but none the less I shall drop some piccys.
The hill and sub station at the bottom.
As soon as you enter through the fan your greeted with a long drift for pipes having the fresh water pipe air pipe and pumping pipe to stop workings flooding
round the corner from here is the man way to enter the haulage drift the roof is fun here 😆
this is one of the sidings for the men to stand in when tubs passed
now into the haulage drift you can’t get very far in as the oxygen drops dangerously and can kill very easily ! I would highly advise using a 4 gas meter especially for iron mines as you can and will die ! Now onto the photo everyone wants the wheel of death ,wheel of doom whatever you call it it’s fu*king deadly as the oxygen can drop to 14.5 past here very quickly. None the less mines aren’t fun and games they kill and do.
On the floor futher from here at about 13.5 o2 was this sign on the floor next to a bit of mud with a hob nail print in it buzzing to find it 😆
But yeah this mine was a cool little explore to do !
